Paul Dumbrell was born in Melbourne in 1982 to a family with a long history in the Auto world and in particular a passion for motor sport.

By the age of twelve, Paul was driving karts in the junior classes before progressing quickly into the international classes contesting events in Macau and New Zealand under the watchful eye of his early driving tutor and team manager Darren Hossack.

By the age of 15, PD as he has come to be known travelled to England for the famous Jim Russell Driving School at Donnington Park where although unable to contest the races due to his age showed immediate speed and natural ability.

Upon his return to Australia in early 1998 PD took a different approach to the normal and stepped directly into Formula Holden. The move gave him instant experience with high speed, aerodynamics and big slick tyres.

A steep learning curve, PD showed speed in Formula Holden and also took to the wheel of a Commodore Cup car for tin-top experience in door handle to door handle racing.

By 1999 PD had moved into the V8 Supercar Series making his debut at just 16 in the Symmons Plains round of the series among the leading names in the sport.

In 2000 PD took to the wheel of a privately run V8 Supercar for the Konica Development Series running close to the front all season and just being beaten to the title in the final round.

2001 saw PD eclipse the series and win 9 out of 12 races for the year to command the series win prior to the final round being crowned Konica V8 Supercar Development Series Champion under the watchful eye of former Gibson Motor Sport team manager Marty Brant and his Independent Race Cars organisation.

In 2002 the big time called in the form of Larry Perkins offering the then 20 year old a full time drive with the Perkins Team in the ‘main game’.

Speed was apparent from the outset but results were few and far between with the rough and tumble of the leading touring car series in the world proving a tough training ground and ultimately hard work for the young star. PD’s speed at one of the toughest circuits in the world, Bathurst, continues to impress all in pit lane to this day.

Moving on from Perkins Team to the PWR run V8 Supercar team for 2007, PD struggled with below par equipment and a number of driver induced errors resulting in crashes and major damage to his cars.

The best move of his career to date had seen the now 26 year old star take a firm position in the V8 field as one of the fastest drivers on the track.

This best move was his decision to take up an offer to drive for Tom Walkinshaw’s team in the 2008 series, something that was renewed in 2009.

With the announcement of PD’s decision to leave Team Autobarn and venture to the opposite side of the tale joining Rod Nash Racing as driver for The Bottle-O Racing as the third FPR car on track for 2010.
