Dumbrell has a wealth of experience despite being just 28 years old.
He first appeared in karting as a junior before progressing to
open-wheel racing in the Formula Holden series.
Dumbrell then made the move to V8 Supercars at just 16-years-old,
driving for John Faulkner Racing, before concentrating on the Development
Series where he claimed the runner-up spot in 2001 while also driving the
endurance events for Garry Rogers Motorsport.
He won the Development Series the following year aged 20 and was
rewarded with a full-time race seat for 2003 in the main series with the
highly-experienced Perkins Motorsport outfit.
The association with Perkins lasted four seasons and brought mixed
results, though by the end of 2006 Dumbrell showed he was becoming a
front-runner and finished 12th overall.
Dumbrell then sought a fresh challenge and moved to Paul Weel Racing
where he raced for one season before moving to the Holden Special Vehicles
Dealer Team for 2008.
One top 10 result was the best result in the first season with his new
team and despite breaking into the top 20 drivers in 2009 he would make another
move in the off-season.
Dumbrell switched to Rod Nash Racing and with it for the first time in
his career into a Ford Falcon where he took the reigns of the #55 The Bottle-O
Racing machine.
The Ford Performance Racing (FPR) prepared and run car provided him
with the tools he had long sought and an almost instant rapport saw him
straight onto the front-running pace.
Dumbrell revelled in the same machinery as the factory Ford pilots and
not only claimed his maiden podium finish at Symmons Plains in
Tasmania, but one week
later at Sandown he grabbed his first pole position and race win.
He ended the season ninth overall and is well-placed to carry that
speed into season 2011.
